COSA Musicians

Matt Diekman (Viola)

Training: My mom made sure I stuck with violin lessons as a kid, which made all the difference. I've had many teachers that have all helped me learn to be a musician over the years, but I'll always name Wayne Crouse as my primary teacher. He's the person who encouraged me to switch to viola and taught me to be a tall, proud, and LOUD violist!

Favorite Composer: It changes by the day, but every time I hear and/or play Prokofiev, I bang my head! But like many musicians, my favorite is usually the one whose piece I'm working on at the moment.

Dream Job: Been living it! The challenge is keeping the balance. Being a movie director or motorcycle racer, however, are intriguing options...

What I love about San Antonio: Mexican food on every corner, Texas Hill Country being nearby (for motorcycle riding!), and the laid-back tempo.

Char Prescott (Cello)

Training: National Symphony Orchestra Fellowship Program Alum; B.M., Northwestern University; M.M., Manhattan School of Music; Suzuki Cello Teacher Training from the School for Strings in New York City

Favorite Composer: J.S. Bach, Bartok, Brahms, Beethoven. Each were revolutionary in their era, and they will be celebrated for the rest of time. They're accessible, innovative, and visceral composers. I also find inspiration in the bands Earth, Wind, and Fire, Daft Punk, and Bela Fleck and the Flecktones.

Dream Job: I'd love to have Yo-Yo Ma's career. He's one of the most talented musicians of all time, and he collaborates with the best artists in every genre and style of music. He's insanely creative, playful, and bold. On top of it all, he's probably the nicest human being on the planet. Yo-Yo, if you're reading this, let's jam.
What I love most about San Antonio: Eating the best Tex-Mex with my husband and his (now my) family!
